Meet Our Leadership

There is no finer example for Christian leadership than our Lord Jesus Christ. He declared, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). It is within this verse that we see the perfect description of a Christian leader. A leader is one who acts as a shepherd to those "sheep" in his/her care.

The shepherd (leader) is one who has several roles in regard to their sheep. They lead, feed, nurture, comfort, correct and protect. The shepherd of the Lord's flock leads by modeling godliness and righteousness in their own life and encouraging others to follow their example. The Apostle Paul understood this: "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). The Christian leader is one who follows Christ and inspires others to follow Him as well.

Nickname? Pastor KB

Leader of? SVOP :-)

Where are you from? Camden, NJ

Where can you be found at SVOP? Preaching in the pulpit.

Favorite scripture? Psalm 34: 1-3

Favorite Movie? The Color Purple.

Favorite Color? Blue.

Favorite animal or insect? Elephant.

What do you like to do in your free time? Catch up on much needed rest.

Best thing you've ever done? Mission Malawi.

How would you describe yourself in one word? Passionate.

Bishop Kemel V. Brown was anointed from his mother’s womb to bear the Gospel and at an early age began to exhibit signs that the anointing of the Lord was upon his life. Bishop Brown preached his first mini-sermon in kindergarten. Amid his teacher’s lesson, he stood up and began to proclaim to his teacher and his classmates that they needed to know Jesus. While this proclamation was not necessarily appreciated by his teacher, it set precedence that he was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

After beginning ministerial training under the tutelage of his parents, Elder Akinyele J. Ade` and Chief Apostle Kinaya J. Ade`, Bishop Brown was licensed into the ministry in 1998 at the age of sixteen and ordained in 2001 at the age of nineteen under the auspices of The Sanctuary Church of the Living Word and the International Fellowship of Churches, of which Bishop Dr. Audrey F. Bronson is the presiding prelate emeritus. After operating as Associate Pastor for many years after his ordination, Bishop Brown was installed as Sr. Pastor of The Sanctuary Village Ministries in the spring of 2011.

In October 2011, Bishop Brown co-founded The Sanctuary Village of Power, Inc., and currently presides as the Senior Pastor. Bishop Brown operates in the five-fold ministry as an Evangelist, Teacher, and Pastor. Aside from preaching and teaching the Word of God, his anointing lies in praise and worship: writing, directing, and arranging music. Bishop-elect Brown is a passionate Gospel minister that is entrenched in Kingdom principles, where he endeavors and teaches others to live a life of servitude to meet the needs of people from all walks of life and in every community. In July of 2014, he officially became an international preacher when he embarked upon his first successful mission trip and served the citizens of the second least developed country in the world, Malawi, Africa.

Bishop-elect Brown has become renowned for making the Word of God clear and relevant for people from many different backgrounds and cultures. His 19 years of ministry has given him the uncommon ability to see and communicate the Gospel from many different vantage points.  Today, he is blazing a trail in the area of servitude and using his gifts to bring about ecumenical, cross-cultural and interfaith unity.

Bishop-elect Brown strongly believes in community. The Mission of The Sanctuary Village of Power, Inc. is Love God; Love Others; Serve The World. These principles are the foundation of Bishop-elect Brown’s life and ministry. He stands fervently on the reminder from Apostle Paul found in Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."

He decided to follow Christ at a very young age, knowing that he had gifts and a calling on his life. Working for God was something that he enjoyed doing. Holding a microphone to sing his praise, playing the notes on the piano or simply holding drum sticks in his hands to bang out his praise became his priority. Being a part of many music ministries growing up, he found a new level in praise and worship at The Sanctuary Village of Power. Joining this great ministry was no option for him. He his now currently the Music Ministry leader at SVOP and is still growing closer to God through worship. He understands that worship is simply what we were created to do and plans to always exemplify that key principle.

Elder Christopher E. Carter was born to A.C. and Evangelist Annie Carter on May 1st and raised in Senatobia, MS.  Being reared in church, Rev. Carter has known all areas of ministry which made it easy for him to become a leader in the church.  Rev. Carter’s upbringing taught him the true meaning of work and worship.  He vividly recalls being pulled to quartet musicals on Saturday nights; then to Sunday school and morning service the following Sunday; on to choir engagements in the afternoons; over to quartet musicals on Sunday nights; then to school on Monday; not to mention, rehearsals and bible study throughout the week.   This vigorous lifestyle of ministry caused him to be firmly rooted in worship and a malleable vessel for God’s great use.

Reverend Christopher E. Carter was licensed in June 2011 to preach and teach the Gospel by his Senior Pastor Kemel V. Brown, former Co-Pastor Angela Spann Callaway and his Chief Apostle, then Bishop-Elect, Kinaya J. Ade’ of Sanctuary Village Ministries, Incorporated.  Shortly after he was licensed, Sanctuary Village of Power, Inc. was created via merger and Reverend Carter’s roles in ministry increased.

Elder Christopher E. Carter plays an integral role in both the spiritual and operational sides of ministry.  As a caring spiritual leader, Elder Carter serves as a teacher of the word of God, a praise and worship leader, member of the church choir (Voices of Power) and an intercessor for Sanctuary Village of Power (SVOP).  As an operational leader, Elder Carter serves as the Executive Pastor, Chief Financial Officer and leads the Church Growth Partnership of Departments (POD).  The Church Growth POD consists of the following ministries:  Finance, Ministers of Excellence, Member Services Media and Marketing and Youth & Children’s Ministry.

Toshé Byrd, a native of the state of Ohio, began her journey as a Christian at a very young age at Grace Christian Center (previously Adullam Ministries) in Athens, Ohio. She began her membership at SVOP in October of 2012 after moving to Atlanta, Georgia to attend graduate school at the Savannah College of Art and Design.  When you step into SVOP you will most likely first see Toshé singing with the praise team or choir, dancing with the dance team or even assisting the Pastor; but Toshé’s real niche in ministry is marketing and media.  Since Toshé started studying photography at Ohio University years ago, she has developed skills that compliment photography such as graphic design, videography, marketing and advertising.  SVOP has allowed Toshé to put these skills to work by making her the Leader of the Marketing and Media Ministry.  Toshé believes her ministry is more than a few flyers and social media posts but rather a form of evangelism in a visual way.

One day while she was driving, God called her “Intercessor.”  That was something she said, “Yes,” to twelve years ago, not knowing what it all entailed. Intercessor Jenee ran away from her call for a few years, and it wasn't until God tore her life apart and stripped her of almost everything that her “Yes” became real.  She came out with a testimony that overcomes and specifically advocates for other women. With her caring nature she also serves on the Pastors’ Aide team. Though quiet, she is a powerful vessel of God and is always willing to be used to minister by the leading of the Spirit. She understands that being an intercessor calls for constant prayer and standing in the gap for those who need it.  Intercessor Jenee is honored to declare, “Prayer is what I do.”

How would you describe yourself in one word? Love because that's what people always feel when I'm around.

First dabbling in the culinary arts at the young age of 10 years old, Chris Gilliam has become a homemade chef, bar none.  She was raised in Virginia and grew up around family members that simply loved to cook.  Since then Chris has migrated south to Georgia and made it her home away from home. She has been a proud member of SVOP since its inception, and because of her membership, she has become closer to God in an indescribable way.  Dubbed the “Holy Ghost bully,” at first she was content in only keeping her designated pew heated with the spirit of praise.  But when asked to step up, she could not deny taking her place within the ministry, driven by her passion in “cooking good food that’s good for the soul.” She is now the Director of the Culinary Ministry, a team of chefs that feed their local body and often lead in the preparation of meals for outreach ministering.  Chris feels there is nothing like getting a good word, being free in praise and worship, and then entering into SVOP’s fellowship hall and grabbing a good bite to eat. She is delighted to use her culinary craft to minister to her family and visitors, and she is determined to do her part in carrying out its mission by providing great fellowship to build one another up so that SVOP can get out of the four walls and do more for people.  Chris incites everyone to give God due praise and invites anyone with a passion for cooking that puts love in their food to come and join her team.

Favorite place to travel? So far...Africa!

Best thing you've ever done? Best thing I've done so far is leading a whole congregation to Jesus Christ!

How would you describe yourself in one word? Passionate.

Evangelist Tamara Onley is a native of Southern California who moved to Atlanta in March of 2009. She grew up Seventh Day Adventist until she attended vacation Bible school at St. James Missionary Baptist Church and joined at the age of 10.  Her love for God has always existed.  After reading the book “Jesus Freaks” when she was 15 years old, God instantly gave her a hunger and desire for Africa.  She realized that there was more to this walk with God, but it was not until she came to Atlanta that her relationship with God was shot to another level through true worship.  Licensed to minister the Gospel in October of 2011, Evangelist Onley's thirst for Africa increased; and in 2013 she went on her first mission trip to Malawi, Africa.  She returned with her eyes wide open and with firsthand knowledge of the needs within a third world country.  Upon her return to the states, she began planning her next trip back.  This sparked the first SVOP mission trip, “Shoes4TheSoul: Mission Malawi 2014.”  Evangelist Onley believes God has given her a heightened 'GO' spirit which furthers her thirst for other countries such as Haiti and the Philippines.  “How could I keep Him to myself,” she asks. “Once you've entered into His presence you can't help but want to see others enter into His presence, get free, and know their purpose.”  Director of Evangelism, Outreach, and Pastoral Care, it is that same GO that keeps SVOP forging forward in all of its outreach endeavors, fulfilling the mission to love others and serve the world.  Evangelist Onley envisions a full time global mission team as being a part of SVOP and hopes to continually send people out to other countries to preach the Gospel, lead the lost to Jesus and teach on the importance of true worship.

“Having an intimate relationship with Christ Jesus, realizing that love is a ministry, and finding my purpose continue to be vital revelations for me in this walk.” - Evangelist Tamara Onley

How would you describe yourself in one word? Dreamer... although if you were to ask anyone else at SVOP this question they would probably say, 'Sarcastic.' Lol.

What do you like to do in your free time? I would answer this question but I have no idea what free time is...

Since Toshé started studying photography at Ohio University years ago, she has developed skills that compliment photography such as graphic design, marketing and advertising.  SVOP has allowed Toshé to put these skills to work by making her the Leader of the Marketing and Media Ministry.  Toshé believes her ministry is more than a few flyers and social media posts but rather a form of evangelism in a visual way. SVOP’s motto is “Love God; Love Others; Serve the World!”  And Toshé plans to do just that through the art of marketing and media.
